Our Balers Help Philadelphia Recycle & Compact Waste
Commit to the environment with our waste management solutions. Simplify recycling with cutting-edge equipment for a greener city and sustainable future.
Home to the Liberty Bell, the Declaration of Independence, and Philly cheesesteaks. But there plenty more to love in the City of Brotherly Love.
When it comes to trash and recycling, Philly is facing a year of increased costs, struggling to get a handle on its waste and recycling flow.
More and more businesses are turning to Bramidan machinery to make a difference in their city.
Philadelphia Negotiates Recycling Deal With Waste Management
Last year started out poorly for recycling in Philadelphia, as the city sent half its recycling to incinerators while it brokered a deal with Waste Management that took effect in June. This year, widespread incineration has stopped, but taxpayers will be coughing up millions more to handle the waste that few haulers want to deal with anymore.
In fact, the city is now paying about $106 a ton to dispose of its recycling, up from $78 a ton this time last year, said Scott McGrath, the city’s environmental planner. Two years ago, the city was paying only $5 a ton, still far from the days when recycling was actually a moneymaker. Philly is not alone. Contamination rates are high, leading to more landfilling.
Baling Decreases Costs and Diverts Waste From Landfill
Fortunately, Bramidan offers a plethora of solutions to this problem. By separating cardboard (or OCC) and other recoverable materials in a vertical baler, the city could drastically decrease its costs and divert hundreds or thousands of tons of material to be used to create new packaging and go into municipal projects. Should it resume its incineration program, cubed bales are routinely used in progressive countries like Denmark to fuel energy recovery programs. Philly could do the same by getting a much better burning block from a separated bale vs burning random waste.
Bramidan could be the key to the city’s comeback, with everyone winning by lowering costs and greater management of the waste and recycling streams.
